PART 6: Establishing a Regular Reading Practice
I didn't name this part "Daily Practice" as a lot of folks get overwhelmed at the idea of practicing a new divinatory or occult modality daily - especially when starting out. While daily practice is certainly beneficial, there's no need to throw yourself into the deep end, unless you'd like to. The idea here is to continue to practice - as often as you can - to build your comfort and skill with pendulum reading.
Learning any form of divination takes time and regular use. When I don't use a pendulum for a while it shows when I pick it back up again. I need to reorient myself with the tool and get back into the rhythm of reading. Taking several months off from reading? Give yourself some patience and grace as you re-establish your practice. Just don't give up!
I see time and time again folks picking up a pendulum for the first time (or after an extended break), ask a couple of questions, get frustrated and give up on the reading. But, hang in there! I promise - the work is worth it.
This January marked my 9-year anniversary working with pendulums and I still find something new about myself and this work constantly. For example, I'm right-handed and had to learn how to read with a pendulum using my left hand after car accident devastated the right side of my body. I had broken several bones in my wrist and hand when it went through the windshield (yikes - 0/10 don't recommend). It's been almost 2 years and I STILL have glass slivers in my right hand, trying to work their way out.
Attempting to read with my left hand was awkward - I am not ambidextrous. But, with a little patience (and a lot of cursing), it worked! I'm wouldn't say that reading with my left hand is smooth, but I can do it when the situation calls. I even read this way, on occasion, to build up strength and skill with that hand.
For your own practice, try to set some time aside each week, or as often as able, to read with your pendulum. Experiment! Try using your pendulum to plan a meal, get clarification on a tarot or oracle reading, find a new Netflix show to watch, or help you check in with yourself on whether you *really* need that new Pat McGrath lipstick. Carry your pendulum with you and look for opportunities to practice your skills. The possibilities really are endless and the more you work at it, the easier your readings will be.
Just keep practicing! Now is a great time to learn something new and if pendulums have been calling your name, what better time to answer than now?
Brightest Blessings,
-Cory
