NOTE: If you haven't read Parts 1 & 2, please do so before reading this post!

PART 3: Calibrating Your Responses

One of the top questions I get is: "How do I know I'm getting authentic answers during my readings?" It's a pretty reasonable question - especially for folks new to divination tools or who still don't quite trust their psychic skills. The best way to do this is to calibrate yourself & your pendulum. But, how does one do that?

First, take your pendulum & get into a comfortable position. Make sure you're in a spot where you won't be distracted.

Now, you're going to ask a series of questions that you KNOW the answers to. For example, I could ask:

  • Is my name Cory? (Yes)

  • Am I married? (Yes)

  • Do I have three kids? (No)

  • Do I like sushi? (HELL YES)

  • Is my cat named Dragon? (Nope, but I’m starting to think that’s what I should have named her)

When asking these questions, let the pendulum answer naturally. Take note of how it feels in your body to get an authentic answer. Are you more relaxed? Has your posture changed? Do you notice any change in temperature?

Now, ask those same questions again, but this time actually *force* your pendulum to answer incorrectly. Move your hand slightly to pull the pendulum to answer falsely. Then take note again of how your body reacts to the forced answers. What has changed?

For me (and this is different for each person), when I get an inauthentic answer, I feel an unpleasant current/vibration travel up my arm. It doesn't hurt, but it's not a good feeling. This is my indicator that I'm either forcing a reading to match what I'd like to hear, or that I'm not really ready to hear the answer to my question (could be both!).

It might take a couple of tries to really feel out your response, so don't just focus your attention on your hand & arm. Your signal might be the hair standing up on your arms or back of your neck, or a weird pang in your stomach or between your brows. Just sit with the experience & see what you notice. Pendulums are great energy conduits - you might be surprised what you learn!

This is also a good exercise when you're in the middle of a reading & aren't quite confident in the responses you're getting. Take note of how you feel with your responses, then pause to ask a question you know the answer too & force the pendulum to respond in the negative.

That's it for part 3 - stay tuned for part 4, where we'll prep for our first reading.

Brightest Blessings,

-Cory
