PENDULUM READING QUICK START GUIDE, PT 1
Pendulums are a HUGE love of mine. So much so that I made a whole 6-week course back in 2018 to teach folks how to build a solid pendulum practice.
That said, I know the last thing the internet needs is another 101-blog post. But I’ve found so many pendulum reading posts to be incredibly generic & they often all say the same things. What’s worse – some of them have incorrect information & make it sound like if your pendulum doesn’t move the way that the author of the post says they *should* move, then you’re doing it wrong.
So, here’s my answer to the pendulum 101 post – a series of 6 posts that will get you started confidently reading with a pendulum. Let’s dive in!
PART 1: What can be used as a pendulum?
First things first, what exactly IS a pendulum? Simply put, a pendulum is a weight that is suspended (usually from a string or chain) so that it can swing freely. Now, this doesn’t mean that a pendulum must be a pretty crystal on a chain that you often find in metaphysical shops. Heck, it doesn’t have to be a crystal at all! Your pendulum could be a favorite pendant necklace, or a knotted yo-yo, or even a stack of buttons tied to a string.
Obviously, I happen to love my fancy pendulums. I’ve made several of them over the years, since I first discovered a love of pendulums in January 2012. The benefit of having a crystal is that its metaphysical properties lend to the work you do with your pendulum. For example, having a pendulum with an amethyst or labradorite point can help give your psychic skills a boost, while clear quartz can lend additional clarity to your readings.
But can we still get great results with a button or locket or ring hanging from a chain? Of course! You could even read with a pendulum made from a wad of gum stuck to a string of yarn (although, that’s pretty gross, so I wouldn’t recommend it!).
If you do happen to have a pendulum already, then hop on over to the next post! If you don’t have one yet – no worries! Just grab your favorite necklace or tie some string to a charm or ring to use for the next several posts. You can always go back and get a “fancier” pendulum later.
